"Be Still, My Soul" was originally written in German by Katharina von Schlegel around 1752 and translated into English by Jane Laurie Borthwick in 1855. Set to a melody drawn from Sibelius's Finlandia, it calls believers to patient trust in God through suffering and uncertainty.

Be still, my soul: the Lord is on thy side.
