The Agnus Dei is an ancient Latin liturgical chant introduced around 700 AD, drawing on John 1:29. Associated here with Ignatius of Loyola's 16th-century devotional tradition, it is commonly sung or said during communion as a petition for mercy and peace.

Teach us, good Lord,
to serve you as you deserve;
to give and not count the cost;
to fight and not heed the wounds;

to toil and not to seek for rest;
to labor and not to ask for any reward,
except that of knowing that we do your will;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
