Finding Rest in God
Create PowerPoint slides from this hymn →A brief responsive meditation built on the ancient Agnus Dei ('Lamb of God') text, associated with Indian Christian mystic Sadhu Sundar Singh (1889–c.1929). The Agnus Dei formula, dating to the 7th century, petitions Christ for mercy and peace.
Thou hast made us for thyself,
O Lord, and our hearts are
restless until they find rest in thee.
Augustine of Hippo, North Africa, 4th cent. (Mt. 11:28)
In comparison with this big
world, the human heart is only
a small thing. Though the
world is so large, it is utterly
unable to satisfy this tiny heart.
Sundar Singh, India, 20th cent.
The ever-growing soul and its
capacity can be satisfied only in the infinite God. As water is restless until it reaches its level, so the soul has not peace until it rests in God.
