Gabriel's Message
Create PowerPoint slides from this hymn →Gabriel's Message is an English paraphrase of a traditional Basque Annunciation carol, adapted by Sabine Baring-Gould. It dramatizes the angel Gabriel's visit to Mary, her humble acceptance of God's call, and the joy of the Incarnation, punctuated by the refrain 'Gloria!'
Verse 1
The angel Gabriel from heaven came,
his wings as drifted snow,
his eyes as flame; "All hail,
" said he, "thou lowly maiden, Mary,
most highly favored lady, " Gloria!
Verse 2
"For know a blessed Mother thou shalt be,
all generations laud and ho nor thee,
thy Son shall be Emmanuel,
by seers foretold, most highly favored lady,
" Gloria!
Verse 3
Then gentle Mary meekly bowed her head,
"To me be as it pleaseth God,
" she said,
"my soul shall laud and magnify His holy Name.
" most highly favored lady, " Gloria!
Verse 4
Of her, Emmanuel,
the Christ was born in Bethlehem,
all on a Christ mas morn,
and Christian folk throughout the world will ever say most highly favored lady,
" Gloria!
