You Parents Hear What Jesus Taught
Create PowerPoint slides from this hymn →A Lutheran hymn based on the Gospel account of Jesus welcoming children (Matthew 19:13–15), urging Christian parents to bring their children to Christ through the instruction of church and school. Originally written in German by Ludwig Helmbold in the 16th century and translated into English by Czamanske in 1939.
Verse 1
You parents,
hear what Jesus taught When little ones to him were brought:
Forbid them not,
but heed my plea Permitting them to come to me.
Verse 2
Obey your Lord and let his truth Be taught your children in their youth That they in church and school may dwell And learn their Savior's praise to tell.
Verse 3
For if you love them as you ought,
To Christ your children will be brought.
If thus you place them in his care,
All in your family well shall fare.
