Create PowerPoint slides from this hymn →A 1745 hymn by Charles Wesley celebrating Christ as Head of the Church, calling believers to joyful praise and confident endurance through trials, resting in the assurance that God's love will keep them eternally.
Verse 1
Head of the Church triumphant
We joyfully adore Thee;
Till Thou appear
Thy members here
Would sing of Thee in glory.
We lift our hearts and voices
In blest anticipation,
And sing aloud,
And give to God
The praise of our salvation.
Verse 2
While in affliction's furnace,
And passing through the fire,
Thy love we praise,
Which tries our ways,
And ever brings us higher;
We lift our hands, exulting
In Thine almighty favor:
The love divine,
Which made us Thine,
Shall keep us Thine for ever.
Verse 3
Thou dost conduct Thy people
Through torrents of temptation;
Nor need we fear,
While Thou art near,
The fire of tribulation:
The world, with sin and Satan,
In vain our march opposes;
By Thee we shall
Break through them all;
Thy triumph ours discloses.
