An English translation of a Welsh hymn by William Williams Pantycelyn (1717–1791), a leader of the Methodist Revival in Wales and one of the most prolific Welsh hymn writers. The hymn calls on Christ to guide his people through life's perils, drawing on the Exodus journey motif and emphasising that God's presence is the source of safety, happiness, and strength.

Verse 1

Saviour, lead us by Thy power
Safe into the promised rest;
Choose the path, the way whatever
Seems to Thee, O Lord, the best:

Be our guide in every peril,
Watch and keep us night and day,
Else our foolish hearts will wander
From the straight and narrow way.

Verse 2

Since in Thee is our redemption,
And salvation full and free,
Nothing need our souls dishearten
But forgetfullness of Thee:

Naught can stay our steady progress,
More than conquerors are we,
If our eyes, whate'er the danger,
Look to Thee, and none but Thee.

Verse 3

In Thy presence we are happy;
In Thy presence we're secure;
In Thy presence all afflictions
We can steadfastly endure;

In Thy presence we can conquer,
We can suffer, we can die;
Wandering from Thee we are feeble;
Let Thy love then keep us nigh.
