With Jesus in our midst
Create PowerPoint slides from this hymn →A Lord's Supper hymn by Robert Cleaver Chapman (1803–1902), longtime Plymouth Brethren leader in Barnstaple, England. It meditates on gathering at the Table, Christ's atoning death and resurrection, and the unity of believers who feed by faith on the bread of life.
Verse 1
With Jesus in our midst,
We gather round the board;
Though many, we are one in Christ,
One body in the Lord.
Verse 2
Our sins were laid on Him
When bruised on Calvary:
With Christ we died and rose again,
And sit with Him on high.
Verse 3
Faith eats the bread of life,
And drinks the living wine;
Thus we, in love together knit,
On Jesus' breast recline.
Verse 4
Soon shall the night be gone,
And we with Jesus reign;
The marriage supper of the Lamb
Shall banish all our pain.
