While in sweet communion feeding
Create PowerPoint slides from this hymn →A Plymouth Brethren communion meditation by Sir Edward Denny (1796–1889), inviting worshippers to fix their eyes on Christ's atoning death as they share bread and wine, and to rest in his unseen but comforting presence.
Verse 1
While in sweet communion feeding
On this earthly bread and wine,
Saviour, may we see Thee bleeding
On the Cross to make us Thine!
Now our eyes we would be closing
To this fleeting world below,
And upon Thyself reposing,
More of grace and mercy know.
Verse 2
Though unseen, be ever near us
With the still small voice of love,
Whispering words of peace to cheer us,
Every doubt and fear remove;
Bring before us all the story
Of Thy life and death of woe,
And, with hopes of endless glory,
Wean our hearts from all below.
