Tis finished all: our souls to win
Create PowerPoint slides from this hymn →A hymn by Sir Edward Denny (1796–1889), a Plymouth Brethren baronet and prolific hymn-writer, meditating on Christ's finished atoning work and His ongoing intercession as a sympathetic High Priest. Drawing on Hebrews themes, it assures believers that the risen Christ still feels their sorrows and guides them with love.
Verse 1
Tis finished all: our souls to win
His life the blessed Saviour gave;
Then rising, left His people's sin
Behind Him in His open grave.
Verse 2
Past suff'ring now, the tender heart,
Of Jesus, on His Father's throne,
Still in our sorrow bears a part,
And feels it as He felt His own.
Verse 3
Sweet thought! We have a Friend above,
Our weary, faltering steps to guide,
Who follows with the eye of love
The little flock for which He died.
Verse 4
Lord Jesus, teach us more
and more On Thee alone to cast our care;
And gazing on Thy Cross, adore
The wondrous grace that brought Thee there.
