O Lord, how much Thy Name unfolds
Create PowerPoint slides from this hymn →A 19th-century hymn by Mary Bowly Peters meditating on the name of Jesus and all it signifies: His life of love, meek suffering, divine sympathy, sinless walk with God, and atoning blood.
Verse 1
O Lord, how much Thy Name unfolds
To every opened ear;
The pardoned sinner's memory holds
None other half so dear.
Verse 2
Jesus! It speaks a life of love,
And sorrows meekly borne;
It tells of sympathy above,
Whatever griefs we mourn.
Verse 3
It tells us of Thy sinless walk
In fellowship with God;
And to our ears no tale so sweet
As Thine atoning blood.
Verse 4
This Name encircles every grace
That God, as man, could show;
There only can the Spirit trace
A perfect life below.
Verse 5
The mention of Thy Name shall bow
Our hearts to worship Thee;
The chiefest of ten thousand Thou!
The chief of sinners we.
