O Lord, I would delight in Thee
Create PowerPoint slides from this hymn →An 18th-century devotional hymn by Baptist minister John Ryland (1777), expressing the soul's resolve to find complete satisfaction and friendship in God alone, especially when earthly comforts fail. It moves from personal commitment to longing for stronger faith to pierce beyond the veil.
Verse 1
O Lord, I would delight in Thee,
And on Thy care depend;
To Thee in every trouble flee,
My best, my only Friend.
Verse 2
When all created streams are dried
Thy fullness is the same;
May I with this be satisfied,
And glory in Thy Name.
Verse 3
O that I had a stronger faith
To look within the veil!
To credit what my Saviour saith,
Whose word can never fail.
Verse 4
Thou who hast made my heaven secure
Wilt here all good provide;
While Christ is rich, can I be poor,
Christ, who for me has died?
Verse 5
O Lord, I cast my care on Thee;
I triumph and adore;
Henceforth my great concern shall be
To love and praise Thee more.
