Written by Plymouth Brethren hymnist J.G. Deck in 1841, this hymn meditates on finding rest and refuge in Christ, whose atoning work removes the curse of sin and promises eternal rest for believers.

Verse 1

O Christ! we rest in Thee,
In Thee ourselves we hide;
Laden with guilt and misery,
Where could we rest beside?

'Tis on Thy meek and lowly breast
Our weary souls alone can rest.

Verse 2

Thou Holy One of God!
The Father rests in Thee,
And in the savour of that blood
Once shed on Calvary.

The curse is gone—through Thee we're blest;
God rests in Thee—in Thee we rest.

Verse 3

Soon the bright, glorious day,
The rest of God, shall come;
Sorrow and sin shall pass away,
And we shall reach our home;

Then, of the promised land possessed,
Our souls shall know eternal rest.
